Did the VHS and DVD save many movies from being lost?

So many movies before talkies (and some during the start of talkies) were lost...

What is a lost film? It means what the title says. A movie is lost, unaccounted for or destroyed.

Preservation wasn't in effect at that time. They had to get rid of movies to make room for more, and they didn't deem the movies worth keeping. Some were accidentally destroyed in fires (because the old film they used were highly flammable).

But television, VHS, and DVD may have helped save more movies from being lost...because now they have a purpose.

Lets face it, not everyone, especially the industry, has much respect for old films. only a few films deserve the honor of being lost (but sadly the movies that most deserve being destroyed have been preserved).

But now that one can have a copy of a movie or people putting them up illegally a movie is less likely now to be a lost film....

Autumn

So summer has been over for the last 5 days now...Summer here has been much different than usual. It did not get nearly as hot as it normally does.

But nonetheless I am glad summer is over and Autumn is here. Why do I love autumn so much? I love the leaves, the beautiful colors. I love how its both warm and cold. I love the crisp air. I love the holidays that come with autumn. Although I am not a Halloween person, I do enjoy seeing decorations up, and I love the scary movies that play throughout the month, or Halloween themed movies. I love the movie Hocus Pocus, I love old Disney Halloween movie themed movies such as Under Wraps...

But I really love November and I really love Thanksgiving. I do not like Thanksgiving for the "giving thanks" part or really for the family part. I love it for the delicious turkey, rolls, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. I love it for the warm feeling you get on that day. I love it for the awesome television programming.

Thanksgiving is my most favorite holiday of all holidays. Yes, I like it more than Christmas...Christmas has been a letdown for me the last few years....

I love the colors that go with Autumn, although I am a person who loves Pink, I can't deny the way Autumn makes me feel.

90s Nick, the troop, and brainsurge.

BrainSurge is an up and coming game show set to premiere on nick next week. This show will be the first game show in many many years, that isn't a remake of another Nickelodeon game show. The guy who has been playing U Pick Boy for the last several years, will be hosting, and without his costume.

The Troop is a new show that recently premiered that is about 3 people who fight monsters. Its got a vibe that is reminiscent of 90s Nickelodeon. For starters, its color is darker than that of True Jackson VP and iCarly and Drake and Josh and Ned's Declassified. The show isn't just simply "giddiness" as many of the Nickelodeon shows are. Also, the actors look their age, and none of them have no prior fames of any sort. They have yet to be corrupted with the "Turn your Nick or Disney Star into Singers" scam.

These 2 shows are crucial. They are crucial as they are the first 2 Nick shows in practically a decade to be in the spirit of Classic 80s and 90s Nick.

Nick was getting started in the 80s, and reached its height in the 90s. Maybe that is because many of the shows coming out were sucessful or had major impact. Also, because they were the "firsts" of the group.

Nick of the 80s and 90s is often remembered as a channel that played many game shows, cartoons and live actions. It had a little bit of everything. It was the channel of slime.

These 2 shows may not be successful though...why? Because the young of today are not knowledgeable of what is a good show. They have been told that Hannah Montana is good, yet they did not get exposed to real talent and quality to know that Hannah Montana and anything like it (such as iCarly) is actually horrible..

Some feel 90s Nick fans need to grow up. But that is a hard thing to ask. 90s Nick fans are the first of its kind...to be apart of a growing channel that had its golden age and reached its height in the 90s...how do fans who are one of the firsts to really be apart of a kids' channel supposed to outgrow it, especially when other channels such as MTV has lost itself and isn't worth watching?

The Entertainment industry today sucks. Music, movies, shows, channels, everything is horrible. They must have run out of ideas....how else do explain such horridness??

Nickelodeon has changed so much since my childhood. I am only 20, yet I feel like i am 40...

I am biased against the Nick of today because I grew up in a different generation...but I also realize I grew up in Nickelodeon's best and most successful generation. I am a Rugrats girl...

In the 90s, it was in to be a Nick fan, it was cool, it had alot meaning. Visit web pages people post of "You know your a 90s kid" and you will realize just how cool the 90s were to be a kid...maybe that is because video games were becoming popular then, so people still rode bikes and played outside, unlike today where the video games are in full force, who needs outdoors...and remember the 90s was dial up internet and not DSL, so one wasn't on the computer for long...

there is definately a different vibe in Nickelodeon. There is no longer a prestige that comes with it.

Maybe I can't help but see Nick differently because I grew up in the 90s...but as I said before...people my age growing out of Nick is not going to be simple....90s Nick was powerful enough to keep its fans years after the fact...

Is prayer in school wrong? What about God and Public property?

These are tough waters...

America is a Christian country...founded by people with Christian views (albeit very bad interpretations of the Bible).

Do I believe prayer in school should happen? Only by choice is my answer. I do not feel it should be forced or required. UNLESS, one attends a private Christian school...

I am not against the boy scouts requiring prayer or banning gays...it is a private group...girl scouts would do the very same if not for the fact that they use gov't funds.

But to me, if you go to a private school, you are essentially agreeing to things on their terms...you don't have to go there.

Public school though, that is different.

But there is something that annoys me...and that is how people have a cow over images of God or things from the Bible on public places.

Seriously...what is wrong with that??? If a court wants to show the 10 Commandments, what is wrong with that? I mean don't they have you swear on the Bible anyways?

I mean, how is it offensive to see an image of God or something? I mean America is a Christian country...if you hate it, then go.

If muslims and other religions can post their stuff everywhere, then so should the Christians.

I just don't see how the presence of the ten commandments can cause such a problem for some people...it sounds like a case of trying to force others to view things your way...or being overly sensitive.

isn't the fact that "happy holidays" has replaced "merry christmas", good enough????

Cellphones

15 years ago, one did not need a phone. Only the most popular had cellphones. Now, almost everyone has one. The cellphone has gotten to a point where it can be afforded in different ways. One could get a contract service, or a monthly service but no contract (pending on the company), or one could go with pay as you go.

We almost (as a society) don't know how to survive without a phone. There is something comfortable about having a phone on you, while on a public bus, or in a new and strange place where you know no one, and don't know where the nearest phone is located.

Its almost become custom to see people whip out their cellphone and text in class or at work...some people text much more than they talk...heck some people use the internet on their phone religiously (I have used it once or twice, and I don't like it, but then again, my phone is a flip phone).

The phone replaces the need for watches...and when it comes to collecting phone numbers, people take out their phone rather than write them down...

Can humanity survive without a phone? Well most would say, they certainly made it a decade or two ago, so why not now?

Well, its not just because one has been conditioned that way, but its mostly based on how society is. Its like the debit card...almost everything has to have credit card or debit card nowadays, that not having one can almost be more burdensome than actually having one but using it very little.

If you pay close attention, you will see void spots, where the outer shell of a Payphone used to be. Some places, such as airports will still carry them naturally because you can't run on the expectation that everyone is keeping up with the fast pace world of technology...but many places, such as schools are getting rid of their payphones. Why? for starters no one probably carries the money anymore and more importantly, they are losing revenue to the cellphone, in the same way CDs are to Ipods and MP3 players, and the tv is to the internet.

10 years ago, it was really popular to play collect call commercials.

Now you don't see them anymore....

So, yeah society could always make it without the cellphone, but could it make it without it and no payphones in sight????

Even landlines are losing out to the cellphone, more and more people find it a waste of money to have them...the only purpose they serve for some is to be a backup phone.

the problem with technologically advancing in society is that not only are people left behind and sometimes forced to advance with it, but also, we forget how to be before the advancement of something. In otherwords, it seems impossible to go back to living in a way that humanity was able to live...because now we know what it could be, and how easier it is.

technology is both good and evil.

Do you think the Patriots would have seen it coming?

Think about it. In the Revolutionary War, America was fighting Britain. And the the 1900s come along, and in two MAJOR wars, the Brits and Americans fight alongside each other...

I doubt the Patriots, aka Colonists, saw that coming.

But then again, just as much as enemies can become allies...allies can become enemies...

The colonists would have never thought that the Brits would ever truly be their allies in war...and likewise, we would never think about the Brits being our enemies.

Currently in war, Britain and America are allies, like they have been for practically 100 years...but socially Britain and America are becoming enemies. Mostly because of their warped ideas about 9/11...their conspiracy theories are driving a wedge in. Britain blames America for all the world's problems, failing to realize America and Britain are one in the same, and always have been. America's Bill of Rights was strongly based off the English Bill of Rights.

With the directions both countries are headed...its very possible America could end up losing all its European allies.

It seems unlikely to most...but I am sure it was an unlikely thought that the very country America had to fight to get its independence would become its strongest ally in two world wars and the war on terror as we speak.

I doesn't necessarily have to happen in our lifetime, but it could always happen. Its easy to say "well if I am not alive then who cares?" But you should care if you care for your children or grandchildren's future.

The world of Allies and Enemies is forever changing. Germany is more of an ally now than they were in the past. But just cause one was an ally in the past, or is an ally now, does not mean one will always be an ally...

It can always happen...

The Purpose of this blog

The purpose of this blog is simple. Its my "anything blog". I was starting to post things in my Questions of a Biracial Girl that didn't necessarily need to be there...so now this blog is dedicated to just about anything and everything, whatever I want to talk about it.
