TV Shows on DVD

Its awesome when a favorite tv show of yours goes on dvd. Of course, it sucks how much money it can cost to buy the whole series. It also sucks if they decide to stop placing the rest of the series on dvd mid way through.

There are great advantages to owning a tv show. One is that you get to decide when you want to watch it. So if you decided at 8:00am you are going to watch "x" show, then you can. Better yet, you get to decide how long you will watch it (will it be marathon style or just an episode?) and you get to watch whichever episode you want to watch.

Another advantage is that its commercial free. No more boring interruptions as the show gets good.

Another advantage is that you no longer have to care about what the network is doing to your show. For instance, you don't have to fear the possibility that you show may be cut from the line up or placed at a time you are either not home or are asleep. Also, you could take it where you want to go and not have to worry about time zone changes and how that affects your viewing schedule for something.

But there are downsides. Such as expenses. Or worse, when they stop putting the whole series out as mentioned before. It also sucks when they cut scenes out of episodes.

But also, what sucks is deciding what shows to buy on dvd. Here is my guide to helping yourself determine if you should buy it.

1. The cost of the dvd set. That right there determines everything. For example, some shows that run for an average of 8 seasons may sell each season for an average of 20 dollars. But the longer the show airs, the more money, especially if its really popular and/or is an hour long show. For instance, ER costs an average of 35 dollars per season, and thats 15 seasons. So the cost is going to determine if its even realistic enough for you to buy the show.

2. How is the television/network schedule currently? That 70's Show airs on 4 channels. So unless it were your absolute favorite, one has no reason to really buy the show. But what if you love Wings? Well Wings is no longer on tv at all. Same with Daria. Some shows such as Home Improvement air in a variable schedule and often end up airing mostly in the wee hours in the morning at 2:00am. So the tv schedule can determine to you if you should buy it or not.

3. Buy what you love not like. If everyone were to buy every show they liked, there would be no room in their home. I mean, if you like That 70s Show, you are probably content with the airings on 4 channels. Now if you love the show, you are probably not content with how much its aired or how its aired, or when its aired, or which episodes are aired. You want to buy the shows that create strong emotions (happiness, etc) in you.

TV shows on dvd are a great thing. Its a better option than watching crap on tv and getting mad about what you like not being aired anymore.
